During ancient times most early settlers and colonials utilized whatever wood they could forage from their conquests and scavenger hunts to make crude furniture for their dwelling. 1. Begin by cutting a piece of pine slab according to the size you would like for your rustic end tables. You could saw the top edges to give it a more natural appearance. Depending on the look you want, you could use a drawknife to create a nice smooth finish and add more texture to your rustic end tables.

2. Cut four pieces each of pine measuring about three-fourth inches for the sides of your rustic end tables. Use your drawknife to smoothen out the fronts and level the rough edges.

3. Cut four logs of equal size, to be used for the legs of your rustic end tables. Now gauge the length of the legs using an end table.

4. Make a rectangular hollow on the tops of the legs by making a couple of parallel cuts with a table saw to create three quarter groove in two sides of the log. Make sure that the cuts are as long as the height of the pine sides. Now remove the excess wood from these grooves using a chisel.

5. Place the sides fitting them into the hollowed joints. If it fits perfectly, remove the sides and apply a little glue on the sides and into the joint. Place the sides back into the joints and remove any excess glue that might have seeped out. Allow it to dry completely.

6. Apply a smattering of glue along the tops of the table legs and top edges of the sides. Place the pine slab on top, making sure that it is centered. Inspect your table making sure it is leveled and adjust the legs accordingly.

7. Lastly apply a natural wood finish to seal the structure and your rustic end tables are done. Bring out a bottle of your favorite wine and use a pair of deer antler candlesticks to complete the look.
